Full Mixtape OUT JUNE 14

It was September 1990 when the first compilation in the groundbreaking benefit series from the Red Hot Organization was released. It was not only cool, but the first major tribute album. Better yet it was done to raise money and awareness to fight AIDS/HIV and fight for LGBTQ+ rights. Over 30 years later, Red Hot + Free arrived in the midst of an unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic while political, racial, and ideological tensions spiked. And once again, music became the medicine — helping and healing. This Summer, Red Hot are revisiting Red Hot + Free as Red Hot + Free [Mixtape]. The acclaimed compilation has been nip, tucked and Deluxed for maximum dance floor velocity featuring previously unreleased and exclusive new bops.

Proceeds continue to go to The Trevor Project, The Ally Coalition and SAGE. Please follow each of these orgs. They’re doing amazing work.

“When Red Hot + Blue came out, the project and subsequent releases were forward thinking in concept, inclusion and marketing, uniting a wide variety of visual and musical talent to raise awareness. The subject of AIDS and discussing any queer sexuality in popular culture was a provocative stance in 1990,” says Bill Coleman, Album Producer and A&R of Red Hot + Free and this equally as celebratory volume, Red Hot + Free [Mixtape]. “I feel honored to be a part of such a rich legacy as The Red Hot Organization. Weaving two things I love so much — music — with direct, in your face presence and activism. To complete an album project purposely called Red Hot + Free during feverish times  was a welcome challenge. To be able to revisit this project and add a companion volume with fresh ears and continued purpose is very gratifying. For Red Hot + Free to shed light further on our charitable partnerships’ respective missions and still help push the party feeling along is super rewarding.”

While the classic template, Red Hot + Blue was a jazzy joint uniting artists like Neneh Cherry, Sinéad O’Connor, Jody Watley and U2 for the cause, Red Hot + Free and Red Hot + Free [Mixtape] play more like fierce sequels to 1992’s revered fave Red Hot + Dance that saw stars like George Michael, Madonna, Crystal Waters and Seal take their consciousness to the club, draped in a colorful album sleeve featuring the art of downtown maverick Keith Haring. This new Red Hot volume nods back to that iconic ’90’s release directly with a reverent cover of Michael’s iconic “Too Funky” with electro pop showman, Bright Light Bright Light.

Red Hot + Free [Mixtape] – in collaboration with Peace Bisquit still proudly features road-tested jams from Ultra Naté, Billy Porter, Allie X, Sam Sparro, Louis The Child & Foster The People, Vagabon, Cakes da Killa & Proper Villains, The Aces, Tituss Burgess, Dombresky, Snakehips, Honey Dijon & Luke Solomon, Alan Braxe and Felix Da Housecat, Eric Kupper and 808 BEACH (John “J-C” Carr & Bill Coleman). This Deluxe edition also now includes an exclusive new song from NYC’s revered Uncanny Alliance (“I Got My Education, “I’m Beautiful Dammitt”) with the sassy disco of “Your Kinda Love” ; Mexican Institute Of Sound’s stellar remix of “Mon Cherie” by SOFI TUKKER x Amadou & Mariam; a highly anticipated revisit of “Money Success Fame Glamour” by The Pop Tarts taken from their indie film cult classic, Party Monster ; a wicked electro dub take by Crooked Man (Sweet Exorcist, Róisín Murphy) on “GET DOWN” by the legendary Arthur Baker and WATCH THE DUCK’s Jesse Rankins and legendary iCON and “The King of Vogue” Dashaun Wesley makes his debut with the ballroom ready, “OVAH THE TOP.”

Red Hot + Free [Mixtape] ’s artwork finds NYC visual artist Bob Bottle remixing the expressive original Red Hot + Free image and logo from Clarence James and Mark Gentile.

“Dancing is universal and can really bring anyone together. Dancefloors remain alive and magical with the ability to touch all of our souls. Music and dancing are a nexus that purposefully unites everyone around the world.” says Coleman. “We all need relief — and release. I’m happy that Red Hot can still provide new soundtracks and perspectives with intent. Many of Red Hot + Free [Mixtape]’s songs and mixes here embody the energy and levity of being or feeling FREE!  Finding one’s freedoms and treasuring those moments of sanctuary, connection and hope are found within these grooves.”

Red Hot + Free and this new Deluxe edition Red Hot + Free [Mixtape] are a celebration of one love and triumph and inclusivity via the groove of dance floor. Come as you are.

The mission of The Red Hot Organization is to create global anthems and collaborate with artists around the world for humanitarian charities. Red Hot founder John Carlin often reminds us, “Red Hot is the only company in the world that wanted to go out of business. 30 years later, we’re still here. Glad about that, but sad that AIDS/HIV awareness, humanitarian and LGBTQ+ rights still need to be fought for.”

Red Hot + Free [Mixtape] is a homegrown musical travelogue revisited that remains determined to lift spirits and feed souls. Our Red Hot dancefloor wants to liberate your mind and body and soul. And as Coleman says, “Wherever you wanna drop the needle, that’s where the party begins. playLOUD.”
